Job Description
The Paramedic plays a critical role in providing emergency medical care and promoting occupational health and safety within the mining operation. This position involves responding to medical emergencies, administering first aid, and implementing health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all personnel working on the mine.
Main Responsibilities
- Emergency Medical Response:
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, accidents, and incidents within the mining site.
- Assess the nature and severity of injuries or illnesses and provide appropriate medical care and treatment.
- Effectively communicating information about casualty with medical personnel
- Administer first aid and basic life support techniques to stabilize patients until further medical assistance arrives.
- Administering basic and advanced life support to patients at the scene of an accident, and enroute to the hospital.
- Monitor vital signs and provide reassurance and comfort to injured or ill individuals.
- Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
- Coordinate and facilitate the safe evacuation of injured or unwell personnel from remote areas of the mine site to designated medical facilities.
- Communicate effectively with emergency response teams and transport providers to ensure timely and efficient evacuations.
- Deliver training sessions and educational programs on relevant health and safety topics including injury prevention.
- Collaborate with occupational health and safety professionals to identify and address health risks in the mining environment.
- Assume responsibility of the ambulance to ensure it is in good working condition and reporting any needed repairs.
- Ensure the availability and functionality of medical equipment, supplies, and medications at designated first aid stations and emergency response vehicles.
- Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and restocking of medical supplies.
- Ensuring that the ambulance is always sanitized.
- Adhere to relevant legislation, regulations, and company policies related to occupational health and safety.
- Prepare accurate incident reports, medical records, and documentation of medical interventions for internal records and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in emergency response drills and exercises to test and improve the effectiveness of medical emergency protocols.
Qualification & Experience
Requirements:
- Valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic certification (Intermediate and above) or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) license
- Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
- Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) –
- Minimum of five (5) years’ working experience in a similar role.
- A diploma or degree in paramedical science or associate degree is desirable.
- A valid driver’s license is desirable.
