Job Description
The Reliability Engineer – (HME) is responsible for improving the reliability, availability, and performance of heavy mobile equipment (HME) used in manganese mining operations. Your role will also focus on minimizing equipment downtime, optimizing maintenance strategies, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of mobile assets such as haul trucks, excavators, bulldozers, and loaders, which are critical to the manganese mining process.
Main Responsibility Areas
- Equipment Reliability Analysis: Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and root cause analysis (RCA) on HME to identify potential failure points and develop solutions to prevent equipment downtime.
- Maintenance Strategy Development: Design and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for HME to maximize equipment availability and extend asset life.
- Condition Monitoring: Apply condition monitoring techniques such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, and thermography to detect early signs of wear and prevent equipment failures.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze data from HME performance and maintenance records to identify trends, evaluate equipment reliability, and generate reports with actionable recommendations.
- Optimization of Spare Parts and Inventory: Collaborate with the parts coordinator to ensure the timely availability of critical spare parts and optimize inventory levels based on equipment usage and wear.
- Compliance and Safety Standards: Ensure all maintenance and reliability activities adhere to regulatory and safety standards applicable to mining operations, particularly for mobile equipment.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability, reducing maintenance costs, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
- Asset Management: Support the broader asset management strategy by contributing to lifecycle management plans for HME, including recommendations for replacements, upgrades, or decommissioning.
- Failure Investigations: Investigate significant equipment failures and near-misses, providing insights into how future occurrences can be prevented through design improvements or operational changes
- Collaboration with Maintenance Teams:Work closely with maintenance personnel and other departments to implement reliability initiatives and improve maintenance practices.
Qualification & Experience
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Mincom Certificate of Competency.
- A Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) is beneficial.
- Experience or certification in condition monitoring technologies such as vibration analysis or oil analysis is an advantage.Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in reliability engineering, preferably with a focus on heavy mobile equipment in mining or other industrial sectors.
- Strong understanding of maintenance practices and reliability engineering principles related to mobile equipment.
